The $2.5 Liberty Head Quarter Eagles were introduced in 1840 and shared design elements with the Eagles of 1838 and the Half Eagles of 1839. Christian Gobrecht, whose artistic style was heavily influenced by Neoclassicism, was the one charged with designing the new pieces. Each coin is made from 90% fine gold with a weight of 0.1209 troy oz. Date of the coin will be randomly picked from the stock on hand.
The obverse bears the bust of Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it.
The reverse features an American eagle with wings outstretched, holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in each of its talons, with a shield across its breast.
